Devi Brahmacharini is the second modification of Maa Durga who is worshipped on the second day of Navratri. Here word “Brahm” Refer to “Tapa”. So Brahmacharini means Tapa Charini – The one who perform Tapa or penance. Devi Brahmacharini had two-armed, clad in white and carries a Rudraksha mala and sacred kamandal. Goddess Brahmacharini is the store house of knowledge and wisdom. The person who observes the fasts and worships the goddess with full faith and dedication is blessed with happy and peaceful life.

It is stated that during here Tapa (penance) to get Lord Shiva as her yokefellow she spent 1000 years on the diet of fruits and flowers and next 100 years on the diet on leafy vegetables while sleeping on the floor.
