As a child, Krishna performed many miracles—lifting the Govardhan Hill to protect villagers from storms, stealing butter with friends, and enchanting all with his divine flute. His stories symbolize love, courage, and the triumph of good over evil. On the day of Janmashtami, the devotees observe fast till the birth of Lord Krishna takes place at 12 midnight.

The biggest celebration takes place at Vrindavan where Lord Krishna was born. Raslilas or the plays depicting the life history of Lord Krishna are being performed. The festival is celebrated with songs and dancing along Hare Krishna Hare Rama.
